Things to do

HISTORY
Worcestershire is a county rich in history. Stroll through streets lined with black and white Tudor houses in Worcester, before dropping by the town’s mighty Norman cathedral. Or head to Great Malvern. This spa town was once a holiday hotspot for the Victorian elite. Tucked away in the Malvern Hills, it’s also home to Great Malvern Priory – a former Benedictine Monastery that was plundered during the Reformation.

NATURE
With the Cotswolds to the south and the Servern Valley and Malvern Hills to the west, Worcestershire has no shortage of sweeping landscapes to explore. Head south and climb up Bredon Hill. Not only does it offer panoramic views across the county, it’s an ecologically important place that’s home to ancient woodland. Look around as you walk and you might spot the shining armour of the rare violet click beetle.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Local folk love to celebrate, with an array of events throughout the year. Catch a storytelling session at the annual literary festival. Or take in a live performance at the Worcestershire music festival. Then there are celebrations of the county’s fine produce, with plenty of farmhouse cheeses, fresh bread and locally brewed cider and ale to sample.

Top Tip from SLH

Enjoy a day out at Hanbury Hall, an early 18th-century stately home set in ornate formal gardens – and don’t forget to visit the tearooms.
