NATURE
During a storm back in 1954, Petros the pelican found refuge on Mykonos and stayed ever since. The islanders took a shine to him and after his death replaced him with a new pelican. The tradition continues, so keep your eyes peeled to spot Petros’ latest incarnation.
HISTORY
There are plenty of museums on the island that are well worth a visit. The Aegean Maritime Museum contains a fascinating display of regional boats and seafaring craft, while the Panagia Paraportiani church seems hewn out of the rock itself.
If you’re intending to take a boat trip to nearby Delos and sample its unique archaeological history, take hats and sunscreen – there is very little shade on the island.
