Introducing Cheverny

This historic part of the Loire valley is fit for a king. Featuring countless beautiful gardens and historic châteaux previously owned by the monarchy. In addition to a wine hotspot that offers true ‘joie de vivre’ for the bon viveur.

Things to do

WINE
With a winemaking tradition dating back to the 1st century, the Loire valley is synonymous with all things wine. Tour one of the many vineyards then visit the Cheverny Maison de Vin (House of Wine). Here, sample some of the fruit of the unique Romorantin grape, introduced by King Francois I in 1519 in a way he could never have imagined. Simply place a microchipped glass under a barrel and the sensor will dispense your drink.

FAMILY
Wine isn’t all that Cheverny has to offer. Its breath-taking Châteaux can bring its rich history to life for smaller explorers. Inside the Château Cherverny, young and old alike will enjoy the interactive Tintin exhibition, set within the building that inspired Marlinspike hall from the graphic novels. Animal lovers simply cannot miss the spectacle of the 100 plus hounds on site being fed at once. Away from the Château, take a hot air balloon ride over the Loire Valley and its incredible gardens for an experience the family will talk about for years.

HISTORY
Travel to nearby Orleans, the site of Joan of Arc’s most famous victory against the English. Visit the cathedral and rediscover her story told across the stained glass windows. Leonardo Da Vinci also spent time in Cheverny at the invitation of the French monarchy. Explore his Château du Clos Luce - filled with both his paintings and inventions - to spend some time with one of humanity’s greatest minds.

Top Tip from SLH

If heights aren’t your thing, forego a balloon ride for the train, the route running from Orleans to Nantes, goes through the stunning cliffs off the valley and even alongside the river.
