Spend a day strolling the idyllic gardens and lavish interiors of 18th-century Stowe House. Then, immerse yourself in the architecture and art collections of Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild’s Waddesdon Manor. Or, not far from Buckinghamshire, visit the jewel in the Home Counties’ crown – Windsor Castle. Tour the vast State Rooms and then peek inside the intricate craftwork of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House.
NATURE
The Chilterns is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it’s easy to see why. There are sweeping views, meadows carpeted with wildflowers and storybook villages to explore – whether on foot, bicycle or horseback. But look closer and you’ll come across hidden gems, from Bronze Age barrows and Iron Age forts to First World War trenches.
FAMILY ACTIVITIES
Through chocolate scented doors you can enter the spellbinding world of Roald Dahl at the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre. Little ones can escape inside his writing hut, devise a whole new word and even help George make a batch of marvellous medicine. Or step into a toy story and spend the day on the rides and attractions of Legoland at Windsor.
