SKI
Head to the ski resort of nearby Merano 2000 and you’ll find breathtaking runs, sublime snowboarding and panoramic views. Or, go off-piste and into the countryside for some cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. If you come in summer, you won’t miss out – bring the family for a day of tobogganing year-round on the ‘Alpine Bob’.

NATURE
Wrapped up in alpine countryside, Avelengo is full of natural wonders. Escape into Parco Naturale Gruppo di Tessa – which stretches from Val Senales to the Alps – to hike the Merano High Mountain Trail through lofty mountains and past lakes. As you walk, look for chamois, crag martins and even golden eagles.

DAY TRIPS
With its thermal baths, vineyards and vibrant events calendar, nearby Merano blends rural culture with cosmopolitan charm. Come in search of the wine festival, flower show or exhilarating horse races. Or step into the thermal waters and scented steam baths for a spa experience like no other. Just be sure to seek out a winery to sample the local grapes – schiava is a local favourite.

Pick a clear day and find your way to Knottnkino – the outdoor ‘rock cinema’. Chestnut wood chairs are laid out like a movie theatre on a mountain plateau, for a spectacular picture of the peaks.
